Roy LICHTENSTEIN Merton of the Movies Poster (Signed)  (1968)
Original screenprint in colours on silver foil paper, the signed poster for the Minnesota Theatre Company at Tyrone Gutre Theatre production of Merton of the Movies in 1968. Signed Roy Lichtenstein in pen and numbered from the limited edition of 450 (and an unknown number of artist's proofs). This poster was also printed in an UNnsigned edition of 500. Co-published by Lincoln Center/List Poster and Print Program and HKL Ltd New York/ Boston (this was the first poster published by HKL Ltd, a non-profit organization). Referenced in Corlett, 61.
In fair to good condition with signs of wear and some losses, most noticeably towards the far sheet edges (some of which will be covered by framing), occasional shallow handling creases, light rubbing in the silver and black, but will frame up beautifully. The poster has full margins and is not backed. A super-eye-catching and fun art-deco style image at a very sensible price for a hand-signed Lichtenstein print. Please note that this print is UNframed.
Fun fact: This poster can be seen in the background of the documentary The American Dreamer (Corda Productions, 1970), which followed Dennis Hopper at his home and studio during the post-production of the film The Last Movie, which he directed and starred in.
