Patrick CAULFIELD The Letter  (1967)

£4,995 GET 20% OFF AT CHECKOUT

An original screenprint in colours on wove paper. Signed Patrick Caulfield in pencil and numbered from the small limited edition of 75 (there were also 10 artist's proofs). Printed to the sheet edges, as issued. Printed at Kelpra Studios, London with their stamp to reverse, and published by Editions Alecto, London. Referenced in Cristea, 3. Provenance: from the estate of Ray Hughes, legendary Australian art dealer.

In good condition with a couple of burnished, lighter patches of ink most noticeably at the mid right twoards the sheet edge, and lower sheet edge (see photos opposite), some tiny, minor loss of ink at the very far sheet edges as is usual for these large, early Caulfield prints, some glue and fibres from of an old backing board remaining to the reverse, the Kelpra Studios stamp still visible. A gem of a print - super hard to find these days - this image is absolutely typical of Caulfield's hard-edged Pop realism that we know and love.
