Original etching on BFK Rives wove paper, plate 38 from La Serie 156, a series of 156 engravings that the artist carried out between 1968 and 1972. Signed Picasso lower right with cachet (rubber stamped) signature and hand numbered from the small limited edition of 50 (there were also 15 artist's proofs). Printed by Piero and Aldo Crommelynck and Published by Galerie Leiris, Paris. Referenced in Bloch, 1893. Plate size: 365 x 485mm
In very good condition with only the very faintest traces of age and handling. A rare chance to own a beautiful original Picasso print
Thematically, this series of works could be summed up as a final major tragicomedy, in which literary, artistic and autobiographical quotes are mixed together, with a sensuality provided by nude and exhibitionist women, confronted by passive and absent males: the voyeur represented above all by Degas in front of veritable odalisques resulting from the admiration of Picasso by Ingres
