Patrick HERON 24 December, 1998  (1998)
24 December, 1998, an original gouache painting on wove paper, one of a pair of original works we are selling from a series created by the artist during his Tate retrospective as a meditation on his life. Acquired from Waddington Galleries by the previous owner, Caroline Wiseman (Wiseman Originals, London), with their label to reverse also. Signed, dated and titled on the reverse of the paper in pencil.
In very good condition and framed in the original John Jones frame that was commisioned by Waddington Galleries (light wear). Heron died soon after these were created, and many were destroyed in the Momart warehouse fire so there are not many from the series around.
A rarely available, beautiful little painting by Patrick Heron, with all the vibrancy of colour which made the artist one of Britain’s most important colourists.
