Howard HODGKIN Here We Are in Croydon  (1979)
Lithograph from one aluminium plate printed in black, with watercolour (brown wash background) and gouache (red triangle beneath the watercolour wash and red border) on Moulin d'Auvergne 280 gsm hand-made paper. Signed Hodgkin in blue crayon bottom centre and numbered from the limited edition of 100 (there were also 20 artist's proofs). Proofed and printed by John Hutcheson and Jim Welty at the Petersburg Studios, New York and published by St Petersburg Press. Referenced in Heenk, 49
'Here we are in Croydon' was produced after visiting Tulsa, Oklahoma and apparently the title derives from a sarcastic remark made by one of Hodgkin's English friends about an interior which they saw in Tulsa
Some old tabs to reverse otherwise in excellent condition. A highly collectable, vibrant and beautiful original mixed-media print by this hugely bankable British artist
