Bridget RILEY Richard Feigen Gallery (before text)  (1965)

Original offset lithograph before text was added for the poster/invitation for Bridget Riley at Richard Feigen Gallery, New York, 1965. Printed on fine wove paper and signed in pencil Bridget Riley upper right. In very good condition with full margins, the image slightly offset on the lower edge (as issued). Some very light traces of handling and slight overall discolouration, a few faint black ink smudges in the margins probably done at time of printing.  Early and rare: not referenced in Schubert: Complete Prints 1962-2005.

This lithograph shows a detail from the painting Current (1964) which was also exhibited at the pioneering group show The Responsive Eye at MOMA, also in 1965, and also appearing on that catalogue cover. Curator William Seitz wrote about Current: 'No prior art knowledge was required to experience the work’s full effect — in fact, the sensorial response it stimulated was so visceral that it was likened to the altered state of consciousness induced by taking hallucinogenic drugs'.

An exceedingly eyecatching and beautiful, immediately recognisable and hugely sought-after Bridget Riley signed print.
